I'm excited to include this wonderful limited edition print, Golden Trout Are a Good Idea, from artist Matthew DeLorme. He is a super-talented artist and you will love his work. The piece is printed on Arches BFK Rives Paper with Gamblin Portland Black Ink. Each of his limited editions are printed in small editions of 30 or less. Each print is unique in its own special way. Matthew DeLorme is an artist and photographer based in Connecticut. Initially trained as a sculpture student, he focused on welding and lost wax casting before discovering his passion for photography. Over time, his work evolved, eventually leading him to explore woodblock printing during the pandemic as a way to stay creatively engaged during lockdown. In his exploration of woodblock printing, Matthew found a medium that spoke to his love of detailed, tactile processes. He quickly immersed himself in large-scale projects, including When The River Ran Free, a 24x48-inch block depicting Celilo Falls on the Columbia River before the construction of the dams. For Matthew, the process of carving wood is akin to black-and-white film photography: his sketches are minimal, and the real magic unfolds as the wood reveals intricate details beneath his hands. He often lets the material guide his work, allowing the wood itself to inform the textures and nuances that emerge through the carving process. Matthew’s deep connection to the natural world, especially through his love of fly fishing, is a central theme in his art. His early passion for fish and wildlife has led him to spend countless hours outdoors, drawing inspiration from the landscapes, creatures, and experiences he encounters.
